Student groups will create a commercial that will be shown during the culminating community event and will be published to the project website. Through the creation of the commercial, students will synthesize the information they've learned about catapults to create an authentic public product. As students learn about what makes a good commercial as well as how to create one, they will participate in exploration of examples. Guided questions will provide a scaffolding through which they can discover the various components that make a successful commercial. Their final commercial will be designed by students, providing them with a choice of how they present their final product. However, their commercial must meet the criteria established and demonstrate their understanding of how catapults work. Throughout the process, students will meet with the teacher to receive feedback on their progress. Sub-activities are also built into the project to provide additional opportunities for formative assessment.
